Origins of Krav Maga

''People respect power and it comes in many forms. Krav Maga is power and people will respect you for knowing it...'' - Imi Litchenfeld

Krav Maga History

Developed by Imi Litchenfeld during the 1940’s in Israel, Krav Maga combines techniques and drills from Martial Arts such as boxing, wrestling and Judo to create a practical and precise self-defence system.

About Imi Litchenfeld

Imi Litchenfeld was born in 1910 in Budapest and grew up in Bratislava, Slovakia. His dad was a police officer but also a self defence instructor.

Imi often trained at his father’s gym and has developed into a very talented boxer and a wrestler.

Later on in his life, Imi used his skills to help defend Jewish neighbourhoods. He was able to adapt his competition based knowledge into real life self defence.

Shortly after, Imi fled Slovakia to Israel, playing a strong role within the Israel Military developing Krav Maga.

Krav Maga

Imi continued to grow Krav Maga locally by opening his own academy and internationally allowing men, women and children to learn his self-defence system.

The first international Krav Maga school was open in Los Angeles by Imi’s son Darren Levine and has since then grown and developed more so suit individuals from all backgrounds.
