Jeet Kune Do Seminar 2025
We welcome back Sifu Fran Poteet-Joseph for our Annual UK JPJKD Seminar! Day 1 highlights, experiences and learning Jeet Kune Do the Bruce Lee way...
This year, we welcomed back Sifu Fran Poteet-Joseph, president of Jerry Poteet Jeet Kune Do Association (JPJKD) for another UK JPJKD Seminar.
A huge thank you to…
Sifu Norm Willis (Owner of Zen Combat Academy) for organising and hosting Sifu Fran Poteet-Joseph for flying over from L.A. to teach us all.
A bit about JPJKD…
Jerry Poteet’s Jeet Kune Do™ led by Sifu Fran Joseph, is an association of Sifu Jerry Poteet’s students, certified instructors, martial artists, and friends with a passion for the martial art and philosophies of Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do.
Often referred to as “Keeper of the Flame” and “The Conscience of Jeet Kune Do”, Jerry Poteet spent his life living and teaching Jeet Kune Do to a new generation of students. In the late 60’s, Sifu Jerry Poteet was fortunate enough to be chosen as the second student admitted to Bruce Lee’s Chinatown School back in LA. He was also selected to be in a “closed door” group of five students, who trained with Bruce Lee twice a week.
After Jerry’s passing, Sifu Fran is carrying on the JKD Legacy, and we are so fortunate to be a part of this amazing journey.

Day 1
The weekend was off to a great start!
We had an incredible turnout this year, with over 20 students attending — including several who travelled all the way from overseas to train alongside us. The energy in the room was amazing from the moment we began.
Sifu Fran kicked things off with a deep dive into Biu Jee, Lap Sao, and Pak Sao drills — sharpening everyone’s timing, flow and precision.

From there, we moved into boxing combinations and straight punches, focusing on efficiency, beats of time, breaking the cadence / rhythm and economy of motion.
Sifu Fran also spoken about Bruce Lee’s 5 ways of attack, with a demonstration of each attack, which then the students practised.
In the afternoon, we took things outdoors for some real-world application, drilling low-line attacks and kicks in a more natural, open setting. It was a fantastic experience that reminded everyone of the practicality and adaptability of Jeet Kune Do.
The atmosphere throughout the day was nothing short of amazing — full of positivity, laughter and mutual respect. Everyone was eager to learn, share and grow together.
The solidarity between students and instructors alike created that true family feel we’ve come to love at Zen. It was motivating, inspiring and a perfect reminder of why we all train: to keep learning, to challenge ourselves and to continue the legacy of Bruce Lee.
A brilliant start to the weekend — and just the beginning of what was to be another unforgettable seminar.
Look out for Day 2 blog coming soon!
