Jeet Kune Do Seminar 2025 - Day 2

Read all about our day 2 of the Annual UK JPJKD seminar!

Day 2 After an incredible first day, everyone arrived energised and ready to go again. The enthusiasm in the room was positive — it was clear that everyone was hungry to build on what they’d learned on Day 1. Day 2 focused on one of the core principles of Jeet Kune Do — Bruce Lee’s Five Ways of Attack (5WA). Sifu Fran took time to explain and demonstrate each method in detail, ensuring everyone understood not just how to use them, but why they work. Here’s a quick breakdown of the 5 Ways of Attack we explored: Single Direct Attack (SDA) – A clean, efficient strike delivered directly to the target without wasted motion. Attack by Combination (ABC) – A combination of strikes designed to break through the opponent’s defences with rhythm and variation.

Progressive Indirect Attack (PIA) – Using feints and changes of line to draw out reactions and open new targets.

Hand Immobilization Attack (HIA) – Trapping or clearing an opponent’s guard to create openings.

Attack by Drawing (ABD) – A strategic bait to provoke an opponent’s response, allowing you to counter effectively.

Once everyone understood the theory, we put it into practice. Gloves went on, and drills began! We worked each of the five attack methods with partners, focusing on timing, distance and fluid transitions between offence and defence. The room was alive with movement — gloves snapping, feet shifting, and a constant buzz of focused energy.

In the afternoon, the emphasis shifted to speed and power. Sifu Fran introduced a practical wall drill where students held shields against the wall while their partners delivered rapid, powerful straight punches.

This pushed everyone to refine their form, drive through the target and maintain structure under pressure. The combination of technical focus and physical intensity made for a challenging but deeply rewarding session.

The day finished with Chi Sao and trapping.

It was another day filled with progress, positivity, and passion — everyone pushing their limits while supporting one another.

Student Testimonials

I had an amazing time at Zen Combat Academy this weekend for the JKD Martial Arts workshop with Fran! She brilliantly brought the principles of Jeet Kune Do to life, giving us amazing insight into Jerry and Bruce. Fran broke down the drills perfectly, ensuring they were adaptable, simple, and flowed seamlessly. The sessions were challenging but hugely rewarding, and I learned so much. I left feeling sharper and more confident. Huge thanks, Fran, Norm, and everyone who attended. 👊🔥” – Paul

Thank you for organising this JKD Seminar.
The learning was well paced and made easy to follow by the trainer’s involvement.
Fran was friendly and extremely knowledgeable making for a great weekend.” – Gavin

The Fran poteet seminar as always was a wonderful time. The JKD training was as usual very high, what is especially great, is through Fran, you get to hear what Bruce Lee’s thoughts were on training and why things were done the way they were through, direct conversations with Jerry Poteet and Dan Lee.
Another great aspect is the host Norm Wills, he is a very warm and welcoming person, who makes you feel at ease on your first trip. Norm has a wonderful gym, that is a pleasure to train in. Another key aspect of making this an enjoyable experience, is Norm’s students, who like Norm are very welcoming, friendly and happy to talk to you, even if they don’t know you. Overall a wonderful experience and worth training for an experienced JKD person or someone who wants to learn martial arts.” – Terry

To close the day, several students were recognised for their dedication and progress, proudly receiving their next-level Instructor Certificates from Sifu Fran. A huge congratulations to all — your hard work and commitment truly reflect the spirit of Jeet Kune Do. And a huge thank you to Sifu Fran for flying over to teach us all once again, we already look forward to next year!
